On the western edge of Mission Valley, San Diego’s Old Town is another inexpensive and accessible option for travelers visiting San Diego.
Old Town is the birthplace of San Diego, an area that regularly celebrates San Diego’s heritage and close relationship with the people and customs of Mexico. Every weekend, Old Town springs to life with traditional live performances of music and dance. All within easy walking distance of a number of affordable hotels, you’ll find dozens of small art, pottery and jewelry shops, and needless to say, Southern California’s best Mexican restaurants!
While a rental car is a must to fully explore the expanse of San Diego county, the San Diego Trolley light-rail line shuttles visitors from the stadium through Mission Valley, to Old Town, past downtown San Diego and south all the way to the border crossing at Tijuana, Mexico. Round-trip fares are just a few dollars, depending on the length of your journey.
